That is one of the highest lessons of Calliope, Muse of Space. That is what it means for her to do what her god tier self, for all her power, all her immortality, could never do. That is something doomed!Calliope could never have, not without never having known friendship. Roxy Lalonde, Calliope’s best friend, with the very Ring of Life which will bring her back to life. After all, when everything was said and done, who was it standing ready to greet the Muse? The Rogue. And perhaps most important to her… a friend. She gets to be whatever she wants to be - a storyteller, a guide, a guardian. She has known love and compassion and friendship, she has known things no other cherub has ever had the chance - dare I say, the privilege - of experiencing. She is a weapon, a tool, a means to an end - and when that end is accomplished, she will be no more.īut Calliope gets to choose her own purpose. If anything, I would say that doomed!Calliope envies Alpha Calliope - Doomed!Calliope has a purpose, perhaps. Her victory was lost when she became cold, isolated, and ultimately, a detached god with only a grim sense of duty left to guide her. Her victory was lost when she killed her brother the first place. God tier! Calliope may be the one to combat Lord English. So naturally, it seems like to be powerful, one must become hateful, violent, and dark.īut Calliope shows us the truest, purest, most divine, cosmic, and ultimate source of power: And we see that this ultimate power does not come from darkness and hatred, as many would think - the world seems to be set up to allow the hateful, the violent, the darkness of humanity to reign over us all. We see that ultimate power, as with the humble Page, lies not in being able to do anything, but knowing that you can nothing - in making it so that others can do something. We see that the truest heroes are the ones we never see, never know. In this ultimate duality, we see yet another incredible piece of literary communique from Hussie. In her we see creation, love, friendship, and an overflowing hope to see the world lit up with joy, peace, and light. In her we see everything beautiful and positive. In her, we see the refined, calm, creative power of a Muse. In him we see destruction, hatred, bitter loneliness, and an overwhelming desire to turn the world to ash, dust, and darkness.īut in Calliope, we see the other half. In him we see everything repulsive and negative. Caliborn gives us the active version of power - raw, destructive power, the power of a Lord. Or rather, half of it - as is the case with many things, perhaps all things, there are always two sides of a coin. In Calliope, we see the true meaning of power. Who was weak and failed.Īnd yet, in her weakness, in her failure, she has brought forward cosmic victory for her Aspect, for creation itself. The true ultimate example is Alpha!Calliope. And they’re right - now that the Muse has found her way to be released from the Furthest Ring, we may be looking at a final confrontation between brother and sister, masculine and feminine, destruction and creation.īut that is only the penultimate example. Everybody wanted to find the god tier Muse of Space, the one being who could possible combat the unstoppable Lord of Time. She was the one who guided all the events of Act 6 towards herself by merely existing. This upd8 is another where the truest meaning and message of Homestuck becomes clear, as only befits the dawning realization of the destiny of the Muse of Space.ĭoomed!Calliope is the penultimate example of the realized Muse of Space. Just read the upd8, and this is perhaps one of the most emotional, provocative upd8s I’ve seen in my short time in the fandom. The Muse of Space and the True Meaning of Power
